Now that you feel inspired you might not know how to take the next step. If you need some direction, check out our list of things to read and mull over. If you feel ready to jump in, we’ve got some places for you to start. If you want to be in the know about our work, friend us on MySpace or Facebook.
Ways to Volunteer and Get Involved:
First, the basics. You can volunteer for the Democrats, the Republicans, the Green Party, the Libertarians or the Socialist Party.
Or, on a more local level, you can volunteer for a campaign. Google your City Councilmember, your State Senator, your Congressperson or your Senator and find out if they are up for reelection any time soon. If you don’t like them, google their competition and find out how you can volunteer for them!
Maybe US politics isn’t your thing. Then fight to save the planet, or spread human rights. Work for abortion rights or for the right to life. Campaign for fair trade coffee. Keep America beautiful. Make America more beautiful. Spend a year developing local leadership. Take a stand against poverty.
Read the newspaper every day? Why not intern there? Love to watch the news? Intern here, or here, or here. Or, let the world know your opinions.
Impress your friends with stories of grassroots organizing in Ecuador and travels to Togo. Live and volunteer in Tanzania or Thailand.
Check out Idealist or VolunteerMatch to find more ways to get involved locally, and check out USA Freedom Corps, started by President Bush after September 11th.
